PGY1-PGY5 clinical rotations are structured to maximize resident education with graduated autonomy. Care is taken to avoid overlap with fellows except when fellows are independently operating as attendings and taking residents through cases. Clinical sites span the spectrum from ambulatory surgical centers to a Level 1 Trauma Center.
Weekly Conferences
Wednesday mornings are dedicated for didactics. Following Orthopedic Department Grand Rounds, there are 2-3 hours of dedicated resident education. Format varies including traditional lectures, case discussions, journal clubs, and hands on labs.
Trauma Board morning conference is daily at Rhode Island Hospital, with the consult residents presenting all admissions and consults from the previous 24 hours. Cases are reviewed and discussed as a department.
Indications conferences are held by each division separately and attended by the residents currently on those services.
National Conferences
The Department sends all residents to an assigned conference every year depending on their year of training. Additionally, the department pays for and provides clinical coverage for residents to attend any conference where they are presenting an accepted research abstract
