Caroll Silver International Traveling Fellowship

Caroll Silver was the former Chief of Orthopaedics at The Miriam Hospital. Through his generosity and through the generosity of his wonderful children, June Rogul, Susan and Paul Silver, this fellowship was created in his name, providing a unique educational opportunity for residents at Brown.

Each year, two residents or trauma fellows can travel abroad, usually to a developing nation to provide orthopaedic care to the local population.  The concept of the Silver Fellowship is to have the resident or fellow exchange their expertise with the physicians in the host country.

This fellowship is available to residents for a one-month period during the PGY-5 Elective Block.

The Silver Fellowship has funded trips to the following countries:

  • Malawi
  • Nepal
  • Ghana
  • China
  • Bhutan
  • Haiti
  • Columbia
  • Nicaragua
  • Guatemala
  • Honduras
  • Spain
