Kathryn Segal, MD
Biography
Hometown: Portland, Oregon
Undergrad: Vanderbilt University
Medical School: Albert Einstein College of Medicine
Medical Areas of Interest: Quality improvement, healthcare and behavioral economics; within orthopaedics, pediatrics and trauma
Interests/Hobbies: Spending time outside with my "lab mix" Chloe, Baltimore and Oregon sports, visiting my family on the west coast, reality TV of all calibers.
Why Did You Choose Brown: Brown stood out to me early on in the application process. There is a strong sense of support and camaraderie among the residents and faculty; an emphasis on academics and research, not just within the department but throughout the larger Brown community; and access to a breadth of trauma and all orthopaedic subspecialties in-house. Further, the trauma fellowship presents a unique opportunity to learn and grow as an independent surgeon and clinician in a community I get to call home over these next six years.
What Did You Like About PVD/RI: Accessibility to the outdoors (mountains, beaches, and everything in between!), ease and cost of living, and being near friends and family all along the 95 corridor.
What Are Your Goals for the Future: A competent and reliable academic orthopaedic surgeon with opportunities to incorporate my interests in quality improvement and behavioral economics into my everyday work. And, to always have a canine companion (or two)!
