The Department of Orthopaedics held its 29th Annual Caroll M. Silver, MD lectureship on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Dr. Khaled Kebaish, Chief of Spine Surgery at Johns Hopkins, was our invited guest lecturer. He presented “Serendipity and Spinal Deformity Surgery.”
The Caroll M. Silver, M.D. lectureship was established in 1994 with a gift from the Silver Family. Dr. Silver was Chief of Orthopaedics at the Miriam Hospital from 1946-1979. He was a dominant force in orthopedics in Rhode Island and nationally for his innovative surgical procedures and successful treatment of pediatric orthopedic conditions. He was dedicated to humanitarian efforts, teaching and operating in over 20 third world countries. The Silver family generously provides support for international medical outreach to third-world countries allowing our orthopedic faculty and trainees to provide education and patient care in underserved communities.
